SOUTHERN SPOON BREAD 
2 c. water
1 c. yellow cornmeal (not self-rising)
1 c. milk
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tsp. salt
2 eggs, well-beaten

Mix together water and cornmeal; bring slowly to boil, stirring constantly. Continue to boil for 3 to 5 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and beat thoroughly. Bake in greased round baking dish for about 30 minutes at 400 degrees, or until lightly brown on bottom.

Serve with butter and honey or molasses.
