APPLE - WALNUT SQUARES 
2 c. flour
2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter, room temp.
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. finely chopped apples (2 lg.)

Bake at 350 degrees in a 9 x 13 inch pan, lightly greased. Combine first 3 ingredients in medium bowl and mix until finely crumbled. Stir in nuts. Press 2 cups of mix into bottom of prepared pan. Add cinnamon, baking soda and salt to remaining mix and blend well. Beat in egg, sour cream and vanilla. Gently stir in apples. Spoon evenly into pan.

Bake until cake begins to pull away from sides of pan or tester inserted in center comes out clean, about 35 to 40 minutes. Let cool completely in pan. Cut into squares. Top with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
