1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract
3/4 tsp. red food coloring
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
2 1/2 c. flour

Mix butter and shortening. Cream together with sugar. Add egg and other ingredients. Spoon onto cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

TOPPING:

1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. crushed peppermint
