AUNT FRANKY'S DATE SWIRLS | |
3 1/2 c. flour 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 c. shortening 2 c. brown sugar 2 eggs, beaten 2 tbsp. milk Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and milk. Blend in flour, salt and soda that have been sifted together. Divide dough into 4 parts, wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour in freezer. Roll each part on well floured wax paper. Spread date filling (see below). Roll from long side, like jelly roll. Chill, slice into thin slices. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes. DATE FILLING: Cut up 1 pound dates and simmer in 1/2 cup water until consistency of gravy. |
