AUNT SALLY COOKIES | |
1 c. white sugar 1 c. molasses 3 tsp. baking soda in 1/2 c. boiling water 1 tsp. ginger 1 c. shortening 2 eggs 1 tsp. cinnamon 5 1/2 c. flour 1/2 tsp. salt Chill overnight. Roll 1/2 inch thick, cut with Spam can. Bake about 8 to 10 minutes at 350 degrees. AUNT SALLY COOKIE FROSTING: 1 pkg. Knox gelatin Dissolve in 1/2 cup water -- let stand. 3/4 c. water Boil until it spins a thread. I use a thermometer, 242 degrees, then add gelatin and let stand until lukewarm. Beat until white and doesn't run. Frosted cookies must stand until frosting sets and firms. Freezes well. Tip: Boil slowly without stirring until spins thread. Cover first 3 minutes to prevent crystals forming on side of pan. |
