MARTHA WHITE APPLE PIE
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. Crisco
1/3 c. milk
2 c. apples
1/8 tsp. cinnamon

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter in a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish. In a saucepan heat sugar and water until sugar melts. Cut shortening into flour until particles are like fine crumbs. Add milk and stir with fork only until dough leaves side of bowl. Turn out onto lightly floured board. Roll dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Pour cinnamon over apples. Spread apples on dough and roll up like a jelly roll. Slice into pieces about 1/4 inch thick and place in baking dish. Pour sugar syrup over all of it. This looks like too much liquid but it isn't. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes.
