SAUERKRAUT CASSEROLE 
Place 3 slices bacon on bottom of casserole dish. Cut one large onion and one large apple in thick slices. Place on bacon. Rinse kraut lightly and add 4 cups of sauerkraut. Sprinkle brown sugar on top and add 3 more slices of bacon. Cover and bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Add 1 cup water and cook an hour longer at 275 degrees Do not undercook. We love this at Thanksgiving! I'm told it's an old Maryland recipe.
