Make pie crust for double 9 inch deep dish. Peel, core and slice 3 medium apples. Add to apples 3 medium pears, peeled, cored and sliced.
Mix fruit with: 5 tbsp. quick cooking tapioca 1/4 c. cinnamon hot candy 2 tbsp. butter (dot on top of fruit)
Place in pie shell. Put top shell on fruit, seal edges. Slit top of pie 4 or 5 times. Sprinkle top of pie shell with sugar and cinnamon mixed. Bake in preheated oven at 375 degrees for 50-65 minutes.
For a fun change mom puts, in place of the red hots, 1 cup of blueberry pie filling.
