2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 tbsp. baking soda
1 box raisins
1 c. cold water
1 c. nuts

Cook 1 box of raisins in 2 cups of water for 15 minutes. Drain. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons baking soda to raisins after they are cooked. Set aside.

Cream the sugar and shortening. Add the raisins alternately with the flour and spices. Mix well. Add nuts to all. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.
