1 c. white sugar
1 c. butter
2 c. flour
2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream sugar, butter and egg; do not over beat. Add remaining ingredients. Roll into balls and then into sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
