This frosting recipe was awesome :-) !!! I'm a beginner cook and have never made homemade frosting before. This recipe was EXTREMELY EASY to follow and came out DELICIOUS! I actually used white chocolate chip instead of chocolate chips HOPING that this wouldn't ruin the recipe and waste my ingredients... AND IT DIDN'T!!! Came out fabulous, I will definitely be using this recipe again. Thanks so much for sharing!

I made this frosting because the nearby store was out of canned chocolate frosting. I am glad because this is delicious!!! It makes anything you put it on fantastic. Thanks!

This recipe is for plain granulated sugar but there are some techniques. Stir the mixture to dissolve the sugar well while bringing it to a boil. Boil it for one minute as directed; not a second more. That should solve the problems with grainy texture. Remove from the heat and let it cool just for a minute or two before adding chocolate. You don't want to burn the chocolate, but you need to melt it. Stir in the chips and give them time to start melting before beating. Now it's fabulous!

This is my go to easy frosting. I use almond milk, unsalted butter and a little less sugar. I double the recipe for 2 dozen cupcakes.

I used the winter mix of mint and chocolate chips with powdered sugar. It stayed a deep chocolate color and the mint was a nice surprise!

Excellent recipe! I used the exact ingredients and it was superb! On that note, all these people that "Change" the recipe then "Review" the recipe make no sense? If you change it it's not the same so WHY do you leave a review for a different recipe? Post your changed version and let people review that!

Used powdered sugar, but otherwise followed the recipe exactly (2% milk and semi-sweet chips). It was plenty sweet and very rich. It covered a 2-layer 9" cake for me, but with a thin layer of frosting. Everyone agreed that more would have been overkill though, so a thin layer ended up being just right.

Next time I'll probably pour the mixture into my stand mixer to beat it. I did it by hand in the same heavy-bottomed pot I cooked it in and it took FOREVER (~30 minutes) to get to room temperature.

Mine Failed miserably. I've got my suspensions of what may have gone wrong. But mine tasted off (wrong) & it was gritty with the sugar crystals not fully dissolved.
I used semi-sweet choc. Chips. What kind of choc. Chips are best in this recipe? That's my only guess on the flavor issue... is that I should've used milk choc. Chips. Hope yours turns out better than mine!

I didn't have any store bought chocolate icing and I'm SO happy to run across this recipe. It's delicious and I didn't have to go out to the store for anything. I'd recommend using this!
