FATHER'S GINGER COOKIES 
3/4 c. vegetable shortening
1 c. sugar
1 lg. egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. all purpose flour
Sugar of dipping cookies
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1 1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking soda

Cream together the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in the egg, molasses, flour, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, salt and baking soda. Combine the mixture until it forms a dough. Chill the dough for at last 2 hours or overnight. Cut the dough into 1/4 inch rounds. Dip 1 side of each round into the sugar and bake sugar side up. Bake 375 degrees for 8 minutes. Transfer cookies to rack to let cool. Makes about 36 cookies.
