MERINGUE COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 eggs, separated
1 tbsp. cold water
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 pkg. chocolate bits (sm.)

MERINGUE:

3 egg whites
1 c. brown sugar

Cream shortening together with white and brown sugar. Add egg yolks, water and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture. Spread into pan 9x13 or 14x10. Cover with chocolate bits.

Make meringue with egg whites and 1 cup brown sugar and spread over chocolate bits. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes. Cool. Cut into squares.
