POORMAN'S CAKE 
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. Use 9 x 13 inch pan.

2 c. water
1 pkg. raisins

Boil for 15 minutes. Cool. In mixer:

2 tbsp. Crisco
2 c. sugar
1 c. cold water
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in boiling water
1 tsp. baking powder
4 c. flour

Mix together and add raisins mixture last. Beat well. You may also add 1/2 to 1 cup nuts and some cherries if desired.
