PICNIC CAKE 
2 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. boiling water

Mix and set aside to cool. Meanwhile, cream together 3/4 cup butter 1 cup sugar, 2 eggs, 2 cups flour, 3/4 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Mix with first 3 ingredients and pour in a 10 x 13 inch greased and floured pan. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Sprinkle top with 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup chopped pecans, and 1/2 chocolate chips.
