BUTTERMILK CAKE | |
1/2 lb. (2 sticks, 1 butter and 1 butter) 3 c. sugar 3 c. plain flour 1 c. buttermilk 5 eggs 1/4 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 tbsp. warm water 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. lemon extract Cream butter, butter, flavorings, and sugar together. Add egg yolks, then soda, then alternate with flour and milk. Last, fold in the beaten egg whites. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cool cake 25 minutes on rack. |
