YELLOW CAKE 
2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour 2 layer pans, 8" or 9" x 1 1/2". Measure all ingredients into large mixer bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly (75 strokes by hand). Beat 3 minutes on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally. (450 strokes by hand). Pour into pans.

Bake layers 30 to 35 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool.

NOTE: This cake can be baked in a baking pan, 13"x9"x2". Bake 40 to 45 minutes. Cool thoroughly; frost.
