BUTTERMILK SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. lard (2 tbsp. more if Crisco)
2 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
Scant 1/2 c. hot water
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. lemon extract
1 tsp. nutmeg
2 tsp. baking powder
5 c. flour

Mix in order given. Chill for a couple hours. Pat or roll out small amounts at a time, keeping the rest chilled. Cut with 2 or 3 inch glass dipped in flour. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes until slightly browned. Frost.
