HAPPY HOLIDAY BREAD | |
1 cake compressed (or 1 env. granulated) yeast 1/4 c. lukewarm water 1/4 c. shortening 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 c. cold water 1 egg 1/2 lb. (1 c.) mixed candied fruit 3 c. sifted flour 1/4 c. sugar 1/2 c. scalded milk 3/4 c. raisins or chopped nuts Soften yeast in lukewarm water. In another bowl combine shortening, sugar, salt and milk - cool to lukewarm by adding cold water. Blend in egg, raisins or dates, and candied fruit. Stir in softened yeast. Then add flour. Mix well. Cover and let stand 15 minutes. Spoon dough into greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan; cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm place (80 degrees) until light, about 1 1/2 hours. Bake in 350 degree oven 1 hour. Makes 1 loaf. |
