1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. boiling water
(1/2 tsp. baking soda extra without egg)

Bake 30-40 minutes, 350 degree oven.
