MONKEY BREAD (YEAST) 
1 c. milk
1 c. mashed potatoes
2/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 cake yeast
1/2 c. lukewarm water
2 eggs
6 c. flour
1/2 c. melted butter

Scald milk. Add potatoes, shortening, sugar and salt. Cool to lukewarm. Soften yeast in lukewarm water and add to lukewarm milk mixture. Add eggs and beat well. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and beat well. Add remaining flour to make a workable dough. Turn on a flour board and knead until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl, grease top of dough. Cover and let rise until double. Turn out on floured surface and roll to 1/2 inch thick. Cut 2 inch squares and drop in melted butter. Place squares in 2/9 inch loaf pans, pushing up close together. Let rise again. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. Or make buns out of part of it and bake at a higher temperature for much shorter time. to eat the loaves, pull off pieces of the loaf "like a monkey".
