APPLE PIE A LA ALAN 
3 lbs. tart apples, peeled, cored & sliced
3/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. grated nutmeg
4 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1 (9") unbaked pie shell

TOPPING:

3/4 c. flour
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped walnuts
6 tbsp. butter

1. Combine pie ingredients, put in unbaked pie shell and bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes.

2. Mix topping ingredients and cut in the butter until it looks like coarse meal.

3. Remove pie from the oven and sprinkle the topping thickly over the pie. Return to oven and bake 35 more minutes. Serve hot.
