1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. vegetable shortening
1 1/4 c. milk
1 pkg. active yeast
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Place sugar and shortening in milk and heat just until shortening is melted. Set aside and allow to cool. Stir in yeast until dissolved. Add flour until slightly juicy. Set aside and allow dough to rise to top of bowl. Once it has risen add baking powder, salt and soda.

Using your hands work mixture into dough. Place dough on board sprinkled with flour. Work in only enough flour to allow you to handle the dough with your hands. Do not add too much. Place dough into buttered bowl. Cover and refrigerate. The next day form into rolls and let rise until double. Bake in 375 degree oven. Makes 24 rolls or 1 loaf.
