SAUSAGE 'N PEPPER BRAID | |
1 lb. sausage 3/4 c. red pepper, chopped 1 1/4 c. warm water 2 pkgs. yeast 2 tbsp. sugar 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. Italian seasoning 1/4 c. butter 2 eggs (room temperature) 4 1/2 c. flour 2 c. Mozzarella cheese, shredded Brown sausage; cook pepper; drain. Cool. Measure warm water into large bowl; stir in yeast until dissolved. Add sugar, salt, seasoning, butter, 1 egg and 2 cups flour; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to make soft dough. Knead 8 to 10 minutes. Let rise 1 hour. Divide into 6 pieces. Roll each to 14 x 4-inch strip. Stir cheese into sausage. Spoon down center of each strip, pinch to make ropes; seal. Braid 3 together; seal. Place on greased sheet, cover and let rise 45 minutes. Brush remaining egg on loaves. Bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Serve warm. |
