BLACK MIDNIGHT DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE | |
1/2 c. shortening 1 1/4 c. sugar 2 lg. eggs 1/2 c. cocoa 1 c. very strong hot coffee (or hot water) 1/4 tsp. baking powder, double action 1 1/2 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda Combine cocoa and hot coffee, stir to dissolve completely. Cream shortening with sugar and eggs, add to cocoa mix, alternately with sifted dry ingredients. Makes two 8-inch layers. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes; if using 9-inch square pan, bake 45-55 minutes. |
