KC'S ORIGINAL TEXAS TRASH (CHEX
MIX)

This makes a tremendous amount of trash, which can be stored in Ziploc bags for several weeks (if it lasts that long!). We usually make a big batch at Christmas to have on hand. The bacon grease is what gives it the good flavor -- much, much better than just plain butter. Don't worry about the calories -- it's a treat!

1 cup bacon grease (or Bacon-Up)
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
4 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
4 tbsp. Tabasco sauce (must be fresh)
2 tbsp. Accent (MSG; must be fresh)
1 box ea. of Wheat, Corn and Rice Chex (medium)
1 box Cheerios (smaller or same size as Chex)
1 bag thin pretzel sticks (small)
3 lb. mixed nuts (no peanuts!)

Preheat oven to 250°F.

Combine melted bacon grease and butter with other liquid ingredients and Accent and mix well. To best distribute ingredients, use three large aluminum roasting pans and divide cereal, nuts and pretzels evenly between them. Pour one-third of liquid over each and mix well.

Bake in slow oven at 250°F for 1 hour, stirring every 15 to 20 minutes. Allow to cool before storing.
