APPLE-OATMEAL CRUNCH | |
4 or 5 medium-size tart apples, cored, peeled and thinly sliced 6 tbsp firmly packed light brown sugar 6 tbsp granulated sugar 1/2 cup unsifted all-purpose flour 3/4 cup uncooked quick-cooking rolled oats 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted 1/2 cup water 1 cup heavy cream, whipped or 1 pint vanilla ice cream (optional) Preheat oven to 375°F. Spread the sliced apples over the bottom of a greased 8x8x2 baking dish. In a mixing bowl, combine the brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour and oats, then stir in the melted butter. Spread this mixture over the apples. Pour the water evenly over the top. Bake, uncovered, until the apples are tender -- about 30 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature with the whipped cream if desired. |
