FUDGE CUTS 
4 (1 oz. ea.) squares unsweetened chocolate
1 cup shortening
2 cups granulated sugar
4 well beaten eggs
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 to 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat oven to 400°F.

In medium size saucepan melt chocolate squares and shortening. Blend in sugar, then eggs. Add flour and salt and stir well with a spoon. Then add vanilla. Pour into greased 8x8-inch baking tin. Spread smooth and sprinkle with nuts if desired.

Bake at 400°F for 12 minutes. Cool and cut into 2-inch squares.

Makes about 36.
