1 (8 oz.) pkg. dates, chopped
1 1/2 c. hot water
1 tsp. and 1/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. butter
1 c. and 1/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. chocolate chips
3/4 c. nuts

Mix dates, hot water, and 1 teaspoon baking soda; cool. Cream together butter, 1 cup sugar, and eggs. Beat thoroughly. Add date mixture. Add flour, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda. Pour into greased 9 x 13 inch pan. Sprinkle with chocolate chips, nuts, and 1/4 cup sugar. Bake in 350 degree oven for 35 minutes. Mixture is very thin, as it should be. Serve with ice cream.
