NAVY BEAN SOUP
2 c. sm. white beans
3 1/2 qts. of water
1 c. chopped celery
1 white or yellow onion, chopped
1 to 2 c. cooked ham, cut in cubes or ham hocks
1 tbsp. white sugar
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1-2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cube butter

Sort and rinse beans. Add to water in large kettle. Add celery, onion, sugar, and spices, and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer. Cook approximately 1 hour to 1 1/2, stir off and on during this time. After this add your ham and butter, let simmer on low until you are ready to serve. Add water if needed. Soup should be a little thick. I like to make this with my left over canned ham and serve with corn bread for dinner. Very good on rainy days, it makes your house smell good.
