CHOCOLATE CHIP OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. soft shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. hot water
1 c. chopped walnuts
1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
2 c. uncooked oatmeal
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Sift flour with salt and soda. With electric mixer, thoroughly mix shortenings, sugars and eggs until fluffy. Stir in hot water, walnuts, chocolate chips, oatmeal and vanilla just until mixed. Drop by teaspoonful into ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 12 minutes. Makes 6-8 dozen.
