AUSTRIAN NUT BUTTER COOKIES 
1 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
2/3 c. hazelnuts, walnuts or pecans (ground)
1/2 c. soft butter

Sift flour, add sugar and nuts. Blend butter in with pastry blender. Chill 1 to 2 hours. Roll on floured board to 1/8 inch. Cut into rounds with floured 2 1/4 inch cutter. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 375, 7 to 10 minutes. Yield 3 dozen.

FROSTING:

1 tbsp. butter
1/3 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1 egg yolk
1 sq. Baker's chocolate, melted and cooled

Cream butter and sugar, add yolk and chocolate. Blend well and frost cooled cookies.

Can't believe I ALMOST found our old family recipe. Must be from a long lost relative....it's even written the same as right out of my mother's hand written recipe??? This dates from at LEAST the early 60's in my family. Anyway...the person who wrote this didn't add that these are sandwich cookies...the filling is a bit different...more butter no yolk. And you can then dip the top in left over ground nuts so they don't stick together when stacked.
