1 pkg. raisins
2 c. water
Boil for 15 minutes, then add 1 heaping teaspoon baking soda. While still hot, add: 2 c. sugar 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 c. shortening 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cloves 4 1/2 c. flour
Mix well. Bake in a greased and floured pan for 1 hour in a 350 degree oven.
Note: Fruit Cake: This makes a very good fruit cake just by adding 1/2 cup candied citrus fruit, 1/4 cup maraschino cherries, 1/3 cup pecans, and 1/4 cup walnuts. Blend well and bake in a greased and floured long cake pan 1 hour in a 350 degree oven.
