FRESH TOMATO SOUP 
4 qts. sliced tomatoes
3-4 sliced onions
1/3 c. sugar
1 tbsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
10-15 whole cloves

Wrap whole cloves in cheese cloth and put in large kettle with sliced tomatoes, onions, sugar, salt and pepper. Simmer 45 minutes stirring often. Remove cloves and strain through a strainer.

Can be thickened before serving with 6 tablespoons butter and 6 tablespoons cornstarch.
