1 c. Crisco 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. oats 2 eggs 1/2 c. sour milk 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 4-5 c. flour Cream Crisco with sugar and unbeaten eggs, one at a time. Mix thoroughly. Add sour milk. Fold in flour sifted with dry ingredients. Roll out piece as big as pan. Spread filling. Cover and prick dough with fork. Bake in hot oven, 350 degrees, for 20-25 minutes. FILLING: 2 c. chopped dates 1/2 c. water 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 c. nuts To dates, add sugar and water. Let simmer 5 minutes. Cool and add nuts. Sift together: 1 tsp. baking powder Add: 3/4 c. nuts Beat: Gradually add: Gradually fold in dry ingredients, beat well. Spread even in greased 12x8x2 inch pan. Cut 2 1/2 x 1 inch bars when warm. Sprinkle with confectionery sugar. |
