I make my own plums. I quarter and seed 5 plums and add about 1/2 cup sugar. Boil until soft then purée. I use 1 cup in the cake. I have even used more to swirl in the cake. It's as close as you can get to the real thing.

Haven't made this in years because I couldn't find the Plum Baby Food so decided it was time for Plan B. Used Apples and Blueberries baby food. Yum, tasted just like the plum because I realized it's the cloves and cinnamon which give it flavor. Very moist and didn't release from pan well. Saw some recipes that use only 3/4 cup oil, may try that next time. My recipe calls for red food coloring. I used 1.5 teaspoons today.

I called Gerber Baby Food Company and they no longer make plum baby food. It was a huge hit every time I took it to Church dinners. Anyone have another way to make it where it taste like the Plum baby food, I would love to know it. I even tried Plum Jam.

My dad used to make this cake all of the time while I was growing up in Ft Myers Florida. He stopped making it because he couldn't find the plum and tapioca baby food any longer.

You can buy jarred plum baby food at Whole Foods. If you don't have one near you, you can order it from Amazon, I think.
