PEACH DESSERT 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and continue beating. Add lemon rind. Add sifted dry ingredients. Spread half of the batter in 8x8x2 inch greased pan. Slice 4 fresh peaches on top. Cover with balance of batter.

Combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 cup chopped nuts, if desired. Sprinkle on top. Bake 50 minutes at 350 degrees. Good plain, or with soft custard, Cool Whip or ice cream on top.
