SOUR PICKLES 
Cucumbers
1 c. salt
1 qt. vinegar
Garlic
Peppers
3 1/2 qt. water
Alum

Soak clean cucumbers in water overnight. Pack cucumbers into quart jars with 1 clove garlic, 1/8 teaspoon alum and 1 pepper. Heat salt, water and vinegar and pour boiling mixture into jars. Seal.
