SPICED PEARS, PEACHES, APPLES 
5 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 c. vinegar
8 inch stick cinnamon, broken
2 tsp. whole cloves

Combine all ingredients. Heat to boiling. Drop fruit into syrup. Cook, covered until just tender. Pack in hot sterilized jars, add hot syrup to 1/2 inch from top, seal. Makes enough for 7 pints.
