RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tbsp. white vinegar
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
2 oz. red food coloring
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs, beat well. Sift flour with salt. Add to Crisco mixture alternately with the buttermilk. Make a paste of the cocoa and food coloring in a separate bowl. Add to Crisco mixture. Stir in vanilla, soda and vinegar. Mix well. Bake at 300 degrees in 2 greased and floured 9 inch round or heart shaped pans for 20 to 30 minutes. Fill and frost with Creamy White Frosting.

ICING FOR RED VELVET CAKE:

1/2 c. butter
4 tbsp. can milk
1 box confectioners' sugar
1 tbsp. Crisco
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix all together.
