DATE NUT BREAD 
2 tbsp. shortening
1 pkg. chopped dates
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. boiling water

Mix these ingredients together and let cool. 2 3/4 c. flour, sifted 1 rounded tsp. baking soda A pinch of salt 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. chopped nuts

Mix these ingredients a little at a time with the first mixture, except the egg and nuts. Add them last. Bake in 2 quart bread pan in 350 degree oven for 1 1/4 hours.
