CARAMEL-CHOCOLATE LAYER BARS | |
50 caramels (14 oz.) 2/3 c. evaporated milk, divided 1 German chocolate cake mix 1/2 c. melted butter 1 c. chopped nuts 1 c. (8 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips Melt caramels with 1/3 cup evaporated milk in heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly; set aside. Grease and flour 13"x9" pan. Combine German chocolate cake mix, melted butter, 1/3 cup evaporated milk, chopped nuts. Stir by hand until mixture holds together. Press 1/2 of this mixture into prepared pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Remove from oven, sprinkle on chocolate chips, pour over melted caramels and crumble reserved dough mixture over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 18 minutes. Cool. Refrigerate 30 minutes to set caramel layer then cut into squares. |
