FREE FORM APPLE TART | |
1 1/4 c. flour 1/2 c. cold butter 3 tbsp. ice water 1 tbsp. lemon juice 4 lg. Golden Delicious apples (1 1/2 lbs.) 1/4 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. nutmeg 2 tbsp. butter Confectioners' sugar PASTRY: Cut 1/2 cup butter into flour with pastry blender until mix resembles coarse crumbs. Add water and lemon juice. Stir until dough holds together. Shape into ball and wrap in wax paper and refrigerate. Meanwhile, peel and core apples and slice thin. Heat oven to 425 degrees. On floured surface, roll dough to 13 inch round. Transfer to ungreased cookie sheet. Arrange apples in a circle on dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Sprinkle with sugar and nutmeg, then dot with 2 tablespoons butter. Fold edges of pastry over towards center (most of apples will remain uncovered). Bake 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 375 degrees. Bake 35 minutes longer. Cool on wire rack. Dust with confectioners' sugar. |
