SWEET PICKLES 
4 qts. cucumbers, thinly sliced
3 med. onions, thinly sliced
1/3 c. salt
2 or 3 trays ice cubes
5 c. sugar
3 c. vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
2 tbsp. mustard seed

Sprinkle 1/3 cup salt over cucumbers and onions in a large bowl. Cover with ice cubes and a towel and let soak for 2 hours. Drain cucumbers and onions while bringing remaining ingredients to a boil. Add cucumbers and onions and bring back to boiling. Fill warm jars with cucumbers and onions, filling with liquid to cover. Seal and let sit for a day or two to make sure all jars are tightly sealed.
