OLD FASHIONED MICHIGAN BAKED BEANS | |
1 lb. dry white navy beans 1 1/2 tsp. salt 1 tsp. dry mustard 1/2 tsp. pepper Dash of cayenne pepper 1/2 c. chopped onion 1/2 c. molasses 1/4 c. brown sugar 6 tbsp. cider vinegar 1/2 lb. salt pork, cubed Add beans to 1 quart of boiling water boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and soak for 1 hour. Return to heat and cook until beans are tender, about 1 hour. Turn into 2 quart casserole dish with tight fitting lid; add remaining ingredients and enough water to cover beans. Bake covered, at 300°F for 6 hours, stirring occasionally, add boiling water as needed. May be done in slow cooker. |
