RED VELVET CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. red food coloring
2 1/4 c. cake flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. vinegar

Cream butter, sugar and add eggs. Make a paste of red coloring and cocoa. Add to creamed mixture. Sift flour and salt, add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Add vanilla. Combine vinegar and soda, add to mixture. Pour into 2 (9") round cake pans or 9"x13". Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Cool, split layers in half, frost.

FROSTING:

1/4 c. + 1 tsp. flour
1 c. butter (don't substitute)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
1 c. sugar

Sprinkle flour over cold milk and beat well. Cook mixture on top of double boiler until thick. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla. Add cooled mixture and beat well. (Should have like whipped cream texture.) After splitting each cake layer in half; frost. Don't frost the sides of cake.
