1 qt. sweet apple cider
1/4 c. sugar
8 short cinnamon sticks
12 whole cloves
8 whole allspice
Few grains of salt

Mix all the ingredients in a saucepan and heat to boiling. Remove from heat and let stand for several hours. Reheat, remove the whole spices and serve hot with cookies of cake.
