BROWN SUGAR CANDY (PENUCHE) 
2 1/2 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. milk
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook brown sugar and milk to soft ball stage (begins at 234 degrees). Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Pour into buttered pan and let cool. Cut into squares.

This is my mother's recipe. I now replace the milk with sour cream or Greek yogurt. If it's low-fat yogurt I add more butter. The change takes the edge off the sweetness giving just a touch of tang.
