BUTTER PASTRY 
1 c. all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter, chilled
3-4 tbsp. cold water

Combine flour and salt in a small bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle water evenly over surface; stir with a fork until dry ingredients are moistened. Shape dough into a smooth ball. Use as directed in desired recipe. Yields pastry for 1 9-inch pie.
