HOT WATER DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. flour
6 tbsp. cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2/3 c. sour milk (1 c. milk plus 1 tsp. vinegar)
3/4 c. boiling water
3 eggs

Sift together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt. Set aside. Cream together sugar and shortening. Add eggs and mix well. Add dry ingredients and liquids. Mix well.

Bake cupcakes 25 to 30 minutes, layers 35 to 40 minutes and 9 x 13-inch dish 45 minutes in 375°F oven, or until done.

Chocolate Frosting:

1/3 c. butter
3 c. powdered sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
3 1/2 tbsp. cocoa
1/3 c. hot strong coffee
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix softened butter, sugar, salt and cocoa. Add coffee and vanilla. Mix well.
